Here are some pairs/groups of sentences with the verb in the GERUND or the INFINITIVE
form.
Is there any difference in meaning between the words repeated in the
sentences? (e.g. REMEMBER doing / REMEMBER to do )
If so, what is it?

REMEMBER
l. Do you remember seeing my keys anywhere?
2. Did you remember to post that letter?
MEANING:1-Do you remember (now) that you have seen the keys (sometime before)?
= 'seeing' is first; 'remembering' is second
2. First you 'remembered '; second you 'posted' (because you remembered!
FORGET
l. I'll never forget falling off my bike when I was a kid!
2. Don't forget to call me.
MEANING:1-'falling' was first; 'not forgetting' was after
2. First you 'don't forget', and then you 'call'.
LIKE (ETC):
l. I like swimming.
2. I like to swim in the early evening.
and ..3. I like seeing my friends.
4. I like to see my friends at the weekend.
and ... 5. I'd like to look at your photos some time.
MEANING:2 and 4 have the idea that I CHOOSE to do these things.
5. After 'would like', we don't usually use the gerund.
REGRET:
1. Do you ever regret not studying harder when you were at school?
2. I regret to tell you that there's no lunch break today!
MEANING:1. 'not studying' was first.
2. 'regret' is first.
STOP
l. She stopped walking. 2. She stopped to tie her shoe-lace.
MEANING:1.'walking' was first 2.'stopped' was first
START:
1. They started dancing. 2. They started to dance.
MEANING: NO DIFFERENCE
NEED: 1. I need to get some new shoes. 2. These shoes need repairing.
MEANING:2. is passive; 'to be repaired'
TRY:
1. Try to finish all the sentences.
2. Won't the cassette run? Try taking the tape out and banging it!!
MEANING:1.Try to FINISH
2.Try TO MAKE THE CASSETTE RUN BY taking it out and ....
